The secondary school program has been developed for students with Autism who are classroom ready and working at an applied or academic level in grade 9 to 12. Students accepted into the secondary school program are working towards obtaining 30 credits for their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Additional requirements for this program include successful completion of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test and obtaining 40 hours of community service before their graduation.
Secondary School
The Lighthouse Learning and Development Centre has been an approved Ontario Secondary School since September 2017. We offer an in-depth, individualized secondary school program for students with autism delivered by a Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) 5 full days a week in a small teacher to student ratio classroom.
One of the things that makes The Lighthouse stand out compared to other Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) programs is that we strive to have all of our students graduate with a full secondary school diploma and not just a Certificate of Accomplishment. Students work at their own pace to achieve a full, well-rounded education as we believe this to be a crucial component to a successful and independent life after secondary school.
